Karis Lee is a third-year undergraduate viola performance major at UC Santa Barbara studying with Jonathan Moerschel. Originally from Lexington, Massachusetts, Lee started studying the viola when she was nine years old, under the tutelage of Jing-Huey Wei. Throughout high school, she participated in her high school chamber orchestra, and at Districts and All-State festivals. She also performed chamber music regularly with a quintet that was founded at the Burnside Summer Music Festival in Arlington, Massachusetts.

In university, Lee performs with the UCSB Chamber Orchestra and in the UCSB Chamber music program. She currently serves as the violist for the UCSB Undergraduate Honors String Quartet and has performed for masterclasses with the Danish String Quartet and Juilliard String Quartet. She has also performed with UCSB's Ensemble for Contemporary Music. This past summer, Lee attended the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, where she studied viola with Roger Myers. She also performed in the KotorArt Festival in Montenegro for the "Cultural Intertwining Project," a string quartet exchange program between music performance and composition students from Santa Barbara and Montenegro.

Outside of her viola studies, Lee takes piano lessons with Lucia Alvarez Nunez and is pursuing a minor in education.
