Bachelor of Arts senior project recital, POSTERBOY debut studio album. Daniel Marella is a 4th year Music Studies B.A. from San Jose, California. He has been a three-year member of the UCSB Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jon Nathan where he plays the drums, and is currently playing with four different combos. In 2020, Daniel was awarded the Opus One Music Scholarship on the basis of musical and academic excellence. During his time at UCSB, Daniel’s favorite music courses have been with Dr. Stefanie Tcharos, Dr. Derek Katz, and Dr. David Paul. He has also thoroughly enjoyed his courses with Professor Kip Fulbeck in the Art Department, taking Personal Narrative and Spoken Word.

Daniel’s passion for Alternative Rock music has been strong since he can remember, and his passion turned into relentlessly nagging his mother to buy him a drum set at the age of 10. Once his mother gave way, the world of Alternative Rock solidified a spot in the forefront of his ears, mind, and lifestyle. To his neighbors’ chagrin, Daniel started to play the likes of Van Halen, U2, and AC/DC in elementary school, but would later focus on a more modern sound, playing music from bands like Green Day, Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, and Nirvana. Playing drums at a chaotic, but rhythmic pace was addicting for
the young musician. Throughout middle school and high school, this music from 1991-2006 would be the soundtrack of his life. During the pandemic, Daniel spent most of his time writing music, teaching himself the guitar, bass, ukulele, honing in on his rusty piano chops, and of course, drumming and swimming in the ocean. Posterboy has been 2 years in the making.
